Bargain bins are great for starting collections, but I rarely find any key date coins in them, mostly common coins. The only key date I ever found in a bargain bin was a 1922 1 cent, but unfortunately it had some lead splotches on it.

The prices you were quoted for those key dates are quite reasonable. On eBay the prices often wind up going above dealer rates for key dates.

I think given the current economic conditions, it is an excellent time to buy key dates, before prices shoot up later. I recently bought a set of missing small cent key dates at similar prices to what you were quoted.

I'm glad to hear that those prices I quoted were for key dates, I was beginning to think that it would cost a fortune to fill my collection. I just looked up the cost of the first few coins that I was missing and gave up without checking to see if these were important dates.I guess I'd better do a little research on what I'm missing before jumping to conclusions and giving up so easily.


By the way I think that your thoughts on buying key dates now while things are down (economically) are right on the money

Not if I have had a chance to visit! I have only one shop available, and I go through all the "foreigh coins", and pull the CDN, and Mexican. The latter, for old times sake. I once lived there, and had a nice collection, but that was many years ago, and like all good things, it had to go to "feed the kids".
