Receiving coins after grading valued over $1000. GST ?

How to send coins for grading to the US valued well over $1000 without paying GST on return.
Any advice or experience on this?
This is not a purchase and the grading cost is below $1000.

We've never had an issue with it. Others have and it's a matter of filling in the correct Customs form if Customs decide to hold your package.

why do you think that you have to pay GST when you send your coins on a holiday ?

Customs will withhold the package if the declaration is over $1000. They'll send you a letter, you can free your package (after a small fee) by e-mailing the address on the letter with proof that you sent the coins out of the country (such as a consignment note).

Technically you are liable to pay GST on the certification if it exceeds $1000.

Establish that the coins are re-pats, and there shouldn't be a problem.

A copy of the outgoing customs form should do it.
