I read about these some time ago, and there were discrepencies on the attribution of type I and type II mint marks...



which type is this???

I'd call it inverted, which ever type 'that' is.

That looks like a Type I. The type II is a lot clearer than the other. That same mintmark on a '79-S is a Type II - LOL! It was introduced later in the year of '79 and became the Type I for 81. Both mintmarks look inverted, just one clearer than the other.

The mint mark pic isn't real clear but the bottom serf doesn't look like the top serf it looks more flat. I'm going to say type 1.
