Hi --

Can you confirm if this is a narrow or wide 0.

I do look in the guide and on the Internet and make an opinion for myself but I like to follow up here with experts as this helps me check what I think it is as well as learn more! Thanks!

You do mean 5 cents I hope,and not 1 cent?
I am not an expert by any means.
To me it looks like the "small date"
This piece is silver.Called a "fish scale"
I'm sure someone else will give you more info.

Small date. Not easy to tell, because of the heavy wear, and the blending {for lack of better word} of metal into the digits. But, the overall shape of the date digits more closely resembles the small date than the large date.

If the 9 is the same as an 1897 or 1898, it's a large 9 wide OO. If it looks like the 9's on an 1899 or 1901, it's a small 9 narrow 00. Yours is a small 9 narrow 00.
