I have a quick question about this coin i found in a "Grab bag" of ancient coins at my local coin dealership, I was curious of what the value of this coin might be. I'm pretty sure the value is probably around 5$ or 10$, But when i saw this auction on ebay, My heart kinda skipped a beat when i looked at the bids for it, It's the same coin, Just a different year. http://cgi.ebay.com/1946-australian...cmdZViewItem So i was just wondering what the value of this coin would be, Here are some pictures. ![]() Sorry about the photo quality (I've been procrastinating on getting a better camera) |
When I refer to Classic U.S. coinage, I mean non-moderns...say pre-1933. Is it... * Too expensive? * Too hard to find? * Too many choices? * Not enough information? For those that collect the older stuff, please chime in with rebuttals as to the above reasons (or other ones) for not collecting the material. For instance, there's plenty of 19th century material that still relatively inexpensive, albeit not free as in you cannot find the stuff typically in circulation. I can understand the lure of modern coinage (excluding NCLT - Non-Circulating Legal Tender) due to its availability. However, (again excluding bullion coinage), aren't our current designs pretty tired and common to look at; after all they're mostly still in all of our pockets? So, I'm really curious as to either the lure of modern U.S. coin collecting vs. the classics. If you want to respond and just call me a pompous |
Hi, I was just curious, being a woman myself, how many out here on this forum are women, and, what's your coin "story/history". I often feel isolated in what seems to be a male driven hobby. Thanks, Laura |

Is anyone using a dehumidified safe for storage of coins. I'm in Florida and keeping on top of it okay but such a safe would make life easier. I know they make these for guns and I doubt if the safe cares what's inside |

So I was watching the HSN's The Coin Vault today that I recorded from last night. On the show they were calling ANACS as "annex". I always though that you say it as A.N.A.C.S. Anyone know that proper way? |
Since we already have roll hunter-specific pennies, nickels and halves threads running, I thought I'd start this thread on Dimes. I personally don't search dimes as I feel it is a waste of time, but maybe those of you who do search could share your finds, especially if you find silver. |
I love copper coins and I love the Liberty Cap design. There's just something about it that I love. ![]() What is YOUR favorite design of all time? |
I don't really have any holes in my collection that I'm seriously going after. Yeah, I have incomplete series that I always have an eye out, but if I were to only buy those coins, I'd either have to deplete my child's college account, or have nothing to buy. I have certain passions. I'm passionate about buying circulated, eye appealing, original, 19th century type material, especially 2-3-20 cent stuff. The uncirculated stuff is generally too expensive. My eye will generally detect this material in a dealer's case or in a dealer's inventory online, especially if it's a better date of the 2-3-20 cent series'. As you can see in my recent thread (here) of purchases, I purchased coins I have absolutely no "need" for. What the heck do I need another 1865 3CN? An uncirculated Morgan dollar? Sometimes I worry, that I'm now just accumulating/hoarding without purpose except possibly towards some sort of inevitable financial ruin. I doubt I'm alone in my nutty endeavor. How about you? |

I constantly hear everyone saying "Collect whatever you enjoy." or something very similar. Well, I mostly agree, but I think that it is a cop-out answer. For example, I am collecting silver (especially Morgans) right now because I think that in the near future silver will be worth significantly more then it is right now. When I feel that it has peaked I will start selling most of my common and duplicate silver coins, and buy them back later when silver is lower. I also like the fact that there is some intrinsic value in a silver coin. I guess what I am saying (and I think others mean when they ask what they should collect) is that I enjoy collecting things that have the possibility of appreciating in value, and the joy of finding good coins in circulation. Though, I also really enjoy nice shiny (and not so shiny) coins of all types. Especially old coins with some history. (they also rarely go down in value, correct?) Sorry about the length of the explaination, I could go on all day about what I like about coins, but now to my poll. For all of you that are simply 'collecting what you enjoy,' please complete the following sentence, or chose a sentence that describes your feelings about coins. I would collect coins even if...: (What is your breaking point?) |
Hi again guys. I'd like to post a pic of the 1972 silver quarter, but I'm having problems getting it to come in clear. I then would need to know how to post the pic on here...any ideas/help? I'd like to share since many of you helped me out earlier today. :) |
Got 5 x 2008 $1 Mob of Roos today. ![]() |
Well, I'm needing some words of encouragement! I've searched through about 6 boxes of Kennedy Halves and have found NO silver! I still order the boxes thinking, maybe this one will be the jackpot. I get 3 more boxes tomorrow. I sure hope I find some soon I've been keeping all BUs from the boxes though, so at least I've been able to do something with them. I've got some really nicely toned ones (especially Bicentennials) and several 2006, a few 2002. Do you think my luck will get better? I sure hope so Wish me luck, Laura |
Well guys, As some of you may know I have become interested in World polymer banknotes. My latest addition are seven notes: 2006 Vietnam 10,000 dong 2006 Western Samoa 2 tala 2000 Romania 10,000 lei 2007 Guatemala 1 quetzal 2007 Hong Kong 10 dollar 2006 Zambia 1000 kwacha** 2006 Zambia 500 kwacha* **Now in packing, the seller sent me two Zambia 1000 kwacha instead of one and left out the 500 kwacha. I contacted the seller of this error and offered to return one of the notes in exchange of the 500 kwacha that was not sent. His reply was to 'keep' the note as a gift for my inconvenience. In turn will send me the 500 kwacha. mila_ |
I keep reading about people buying coins by the box from the bank. What do the various boxes cost? |
For those of you who search bank boxes, have you noticed a trend towards copper hoarding? The reason I ask--I just went through a whole box and did not find a single pre-'82 copper Lincoln. On the other hand, it sure helped me focus on finding a '92-D close AM (but no luck as of yet, lol) |
