How can you tell if a coin is damaged or a struck through mint error?Wave on a coin? What is that? movement from a post strike hit on a coin. this shows that it happened post strike where the hit altered coins field area around the contact mark. often this will also the opposite side of the coin on the other side with a push outwards coin event. Wow! Page 25!Die events? How are they seen on a coin? Can these be die life ending? What is a die event? How does it affect the coins struck? die events are what all dies go through during the die aging process. The coins will show this breakdown often by raised areas on the coins struck with a die event that happened. some die event are removed other times the dies are retired. these are common events, kind of like the number of years your count your life with today. birthdays are common, but die events are like life events that affect our lives. so these are not good things for us and dies to go through. Polished die events, "Two Feathers." ( Buffalo nickels)What are the two feather Buffalo nickels? just over polished die issues. these are just die events. a lot of tada, for new ones to look for, that are just die events. The dies were normal, the third feather was polished off. just another die event to push on to the new collectors. Why do Lamination peel off of the coins?What causes lamination errors? How are struck through errors different? the thickness of the lamination peel. thick/thin or all the same thickness. These can partial peel or fall off on the coins. because the metal is rolled out, the lamination can usually be long in shape. struck through would be whatever shape/thickness of the debris piece. Machine Doubling doesn't produce a spread, it removes contour on design devices. Why are reed edges to the silver coinage in the past? blanks are the cut metal, the added upset process adds the proto rim to edge of the blank, making it a planchet. during the striking process, the struck coins will have a plain edge or a reed edge when the planchet fills the collar during the striking of the coin. the collars have the reed edge on the collar that forms the reeds during the strike. (thus some of the business strike coins can have the directions different) But proof dollars will all be in the same direction. Hope this helps everyone. How are dies affected by this process and how is the damage removed? die wear on the single squeeze dies is different than the die wear of the older style die creation. the die wear showing the fields of the DDD examples and on the older processes, the device design is reduced by the die wear that affects the devices: Multi-hub processes of the past, affecting the outside edges of devices. thus you can tell the two different die creation processes. (by the die wear pattern on the outer edges of the devices being affected first) this affect on the fields of the DDD dies is used to remove these die wear lines on the fields and the removal of Ridge Rings seen on the DDD die coins. This reduction alters the devices size (removing the bases of devices) and sometimes weaken the devices to the point that they are completely removed on the dies. Why is split plating on a coin a bad thing? Kind of the blowout on a tire issue. The value will be greatly reduced in time. What is split plating? during the strike, the strike/looseness of the machine splits the plating. this exposes the zinc and give it oxygen. the color will be gray and zinc rot will set in. so this is not a good thing. But when purchasing coins, make sure those areas are not showing the split plating. on cent obverse look at the SE area of the mintmark. 1959 cent DDO's what to look for on these?What should I look for on 1959 DDO cents? keep in mind the master hub was continuing to swell at this time and was replaced in 1969 because the devices were enlarging on the designs. so on this 1959 there were doubled dies, but certain areas were noticed more than others. so there is what to look for on the spread.     Please know I am a novice and appreciate all advice offered. My post references 2 different question's about this 1982 penny w/o mint mark and a smail date, I think. I read somewhere about a "A strike-through mint error in some 1982 pennies on Lincoln's cheeks. What would that resemble? My next question is about the photo. I find my pictures of pennies look better without lighting. With lighting though, errors and other flaws are easier to see. Which is appropriate to post? Thank you

Your coin is a zinc 1982 small date from Philly. One of the 7 business strikes that happened normally that year. So it is a common coin example.
