What intrigues me about these coins is how minute and light they are.

They are smaller than a 20th century silver 3 pence, which itself is amaller than a dime - how did people use them?

Did they weigh them rather than count them in transactions ?

I think that in those days it was not the coin and its denomination that was important, but how much silver it contained. The merchant probably had scales for weighing coins and bullion.

This is one lonely coin after 1600. The remainder are in the medieval section.

It is a 1609 K-B Hungarian Denar under King Matthias II;Huszar 1139,Unger 868.
