I've not received this note but did win it at auction tonight, so these are the seller's pics. While it's not that pretty and is a low grade, it's an example of a National Bank Note from the town I was born in, Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. I've been looking for many years for an example, without any success.

There were 3 national banks which issued notes for that little town (about 2000 residents during the 1910's through 1930's). However, there are only 20 total notes across all denominations and types in the census across all those banks, with 5 being unique examples for the bank and town. Two of those notes are unique type/denominations for the entire state.

The 1902PB $5 I got is by far the most common, with 11 known for the Planters National Bank. I will continue searching and hunting and hopefully will be able to get a small size note one of these years, though I'm sure I'll pay dearly for the opportunity to own it

Always nice to get your birth-town National! Congrats!

I got mine (McKinney, Texas 1929T-1 $5 ch 2909) in 1972 from the late, great paper dealer Curtis Iverson for <$20.00! I've still got it - along with a few others I've been able to score the last 50+ years.

The hunt NEVER stops!

Thanks, westernsky, and you're right, the hunt never ends! I'm 63 and I still get as excited now when I find a new "treasure" as I did as a kid of 7 or 8!

It's been a good couple of days with 4 new arrivals for my currency type sets. I'm very happy with all four of these notes which have been high on my want list from day 1 of my currency collecting adventure...

@redlock, that's a New York class battleship, of which there were two ships in that class - the USS New York and the USS Texas. There is no designation on the image on the note, but it's been assumed it is the USS New York.

FYI, the USS Texas was a museum ship at the San Jacinto State Park for many years, and I've toured it more than once during my years living in the Houston area. It just recently was put in a dry dock in Galveston for long-needed repairs.

The USS New York was sunk as a target in 1948.
