I wasn't aware that the Mexico City mint had produced coinage for India. It turns out that several mints around the world have done so.

I stumbled across this webpage giving an overview of Indian coinage since earliest times. This apparently is study material pursuant to passing the Indian Administrative Service's examination to qualify a person for entry into the country's civil service.
