This silver jeton arrived today from France.

1728 Maria Karolina Zofia Felicja Leszczyska, also known as Marie Leczinska, was Queen of France as the wife of King Louis XV.

She was the grandmother of Louis XVI, Louis XVIII and Charles X of France.

What a contrast between the French and English monarchies at the time this coin was issued. England had beheaded her King and was a republic (Commonwealth) ruled by Oliver Cromwell. In France Louis XIV called himself the Sun King and was supremely powerful...
