Hello I got this Dime in my change the other day and noticed the marks. I'm still learning the terms for this hobbie and so I just wanted to confirm these are called "Die Chips"?

Its probably very common but me being new to this I just thought that the weird extra metal marks or whatever they are on some of the letters in the legend were kinda unique and odd is all.

Not die chips.
They look similar to Trail Dies but I haven't seen them that heavy.
Maybe one of our error experts can shed more light on this.

They are coming off the tips of the serifs. Maybe they are from Die Deterioration as the die wears out and fractures on the letter edges. Looks odd and never seen it before, but I don't collect modern.

Ok thanks guys I appreciate your knowledge and opinions. Ya daryldaryl I can see the same simular happening on your Dime as well. Thanks for the Picture! Now I'm gonna look at those marks on the right side of the neck and behind her head. Those are probably scratch marks but Ive missed the obvious before on a coin so you never know lol.

So whatever this is it then doesn't add no extra value and is just something thats unique for a certain collector?
