No Lamingtons were invented in New Zealand around 1881. A recipe from a Nelson newspaper from March 1881 was for a cake very similar to Lamingtons and this article (British not Kiwi propaganda) shows an 1888 painting with a lamington in it. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...f%20Auckland. However I will agree calling them Lamingtons was an Australian idea after Lord Lamington the Governor of Queensland in 1900. They were only referred to Lamingtons there after 1902, but the same Lord Lamington visited Wellington in 1895 and was taken by the shaved coconut covered cakelets presented to him by local bakers, who called their creations "Lamingtons" after previously being known as Wellingtons. After this visit, Lamington assumed his duties in Brisbane and no doubt remembered those alluring baked treats he had tried back in Noo Zillund and thought we should have them here. The conversation went along the lines of "Hey Stu, what do we call these fancy cakes from Noo Zillund?" "Well not Kiwis cobber as they will hog the credit for them and fair dinkum, we can't let the kiwis hog all the glory" "Strewth Bruce, yew know I don't like thinking - burns the billabong. I know lets call them Lamingtons, really sounds like sheep and Kiwi stuff", "Well it is, it reminds they are Kiwi and remind us to keep making up the sheep jokes about them" And there you are, Australia's dollar coin celebrating pieces of Kiwiana.

Princetane, you sure know a lot about lamingtons. Maybe you can tell me why sometimes they have jam and sometimes they don't. And are you claiming that crux on the X coin for the Kiwis too as it only involves the 4 stars that are on the New Zealand flag.

A bit off topic, but the Mrs. is all too quick to let me know when there are lamingtons in the litter tray.

Day 95Noodled 19 rolls of dollar coins and got one coin closer to tracking down the remaining 2019 A-Zs. 2019 T for Thongs Still finding quite a few 2020 QANTAS and MORs. The released mintage figures are quite low so I hope the RAM hasn't been minting more of them. Total number of one dollar coins noodled: 15940 Number of different circulation coins found: 121/128 2019 A-Z coins found: 19/26 2021 A-Z coins found: 26/26 2022 A-Z coins found: 26/26 NCLT coins found: 19 Mule dollars found: 1

And are you claiming that crux on the X coin for the Kiwis too as it only involves the 4 stars that are on the New Zealand flag. It's personal choice, you can eat your lamingtons raw, or you can slice them in the middle, add cream or jam, or sometimes put cream and a cherry on top. I do it all, I love embellishments. More is more in cakes and sweets. Of course all embellishments must be from New Zealand, none of this Aussie rubbish! Second part - No, the Southern Cross is seen in all parts of the Southern Hemisphere, if Aussies and Kiwis solely claim it, then a lot of South Americans, South Africans and Africa south of the equator and many Pacific and Indian Ocean Island nations will be angry. The Southern Cross is to us like what the Polaris is to you all in the Northern Hemisphere - there is enough stars for us all. 3M - The 2019 Alphabet dollars are coming along, love the build up of Parkes dollars.
