Hello everyone. I thought I'd do a post on a project I started earlier this year. I really love these ultra cameo proof silver coins from the 1970s, which were minted by The Royal Mint in the UK on behalf of the issuing countries. I want to collect the full set of 48, but the high end slabbed pieces with NGC sell for over £150 or £200 and sometimes £400 or more in PF68 and PF69s. There's just no way I could afford to buy them all like this, even if I took my time. I found I could actually get them from sellers in their original packaging for about £30 to £60 a coin, and to me they looked as good as new. I managed to get all of these below at pretty decent prices, and with the grading fee being only £21 for moderns, I saved a lot of money! And I had the fun of doing it myself. I have bought some this year that I knew straight away wouldn't grade higher than a 67 and so I sold them on again. 67 is really what I want at minimum, but that's part of the fun of doing it, you can't win them all!

According to my research, there are 24 issuing countries with two coins each. There is a larger coin, and a smaller denomination one. 48 coins in total I believe, although there is little information on the internet. I have these 10 so far, so I'm almost a quarter of the way through the journey! I'll post the one's I have so far below, I hope you like them :) My favourite designs are the Mongolian Camel, the Venezuelan Giant Armadillo and the Indonesian Orangutang looks absolutely fantastic. Let me know which one you like, or one that I don't have. Or if you have any of these please let me know!

Here are some of the countries: Afghanistan, Botswana, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Fiji, Falkland Islands, Gambia, Indonesia, Jordan, Malawi, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mongolia, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Seychelles, Sudan, Tanzania, Thailand, Venezuela, Zaire and Zambia

I was very happy to get these grades back. They will make a great investment for the future as they are very desirable coins, with fairly low mintages.

The Seychelles 5 Rupee depicts a Palm Tree, which came as a pair with the Seychelles Tortoise. I'm sure it is part of the full set but perhaps not as I thought every coin would depict an animal. Perhaps they are not part of the WWF conservation series. I would love to clarify the exact coins that are, so I could hunt them down.

Very nice collection! I look forward to seeing more coins as you add them.

A search of "Wildlife conservation silver" in Numista might generate the list you are seeking.

The 7-sided Seychelles 5 rupees with the palm tree and the 10 rupees with the turtle weren't part of the Conservation series - they are silver proof versions of regular circulating coins.

Many thanks NumisRob, that's what I thought. I've been given a list here from a friend and I think it is correct.
I didn't know about the gold series! Can't afford to pursue that however.

Interesting subject, thanks for sharing. This is a generally underappreciated era of world large silver proof coins.

It's a fairly interesting series of coins, and quite the number of them are scarce. I like large silver proof coins from this era, and I only have one of the 48. I'm considering adding another column to that table, a link for a specific ebay search for each coin. Actually, one search would probably hit both country's coins, so it would only be 24 different links.
