I've come across this penny but my research hasn't turned up much. What am I looking at?

Would love to see photos posted; full, large and sharp. Obverse and reverse. Thanks.

I see copper and if stuck on a nickel planchet it would be wider. What am I missing?

My scale is malfunctioning but my go to would be to weigh it. Picture is in the comments. Thanks!

Can't be a cent struck on a nickel planchet as a nickel would not fit in a cent collar die. Looks like it has just been plated, you can see copper showing through

I put nickel planchet because of its color. I can't say if it was actually even a planchet error. Ergo...why I'm here.

It's the color of a steel penny.

Look like it plated, and it's wearing off . IMHO

Agree with the plating assessment. Appears to be a 'lighter' plating with some of it wearing thin. I have three or four similar mid-90s memorial cents.
