almost. different coins. - I did a double take also. but the dark splotch on one of the small date coins in the other topic gave it away.

The shape of the '2' ad the location of the '2' is what to look at on these.

Note the large date looks like an upside down '7'? Small date looks different.

Not just the dates are different:

Location and shapes of the '2' would be your first clues.

How do we know if it's bronze or copper?

Weigh it. Brass (copper with a small amount of zinc) is around 3g; Zinc (with copper coating) is around 2.5g.
