1983 Lincoln Cent Spike Head

Very nice set of die cracks.

Neat looking coin with very cool tones, nice pics too. You have a nice spike head that bisects when it meets the head. I've marked up a close up of your pic.


Those are extreme die abrasions, probably trying to hide a nice clashed die at some point.

Very interesting. I did notice the two cracks on the reverse coming down from the memorial. Now I see they are at each side of Lincoln's head.

Okay, yes, correct, which brings me back to my original question. So this coin has a die crack (spike head) and the dies used apparently had a die clash (either causing the die crack in the die, or it was already there).

My question is: what are the cracks on the coin that appear to be a cracked planchet/cracked actual coin, and are they related to either the die crack, and/or the leftover die clash marks? Or are they a third issue separate from the other two? I'm talking about the black looking lines extending out horizontally left and right, along the top of Lincoln's hair, and on the left through the word "GOD".

The raised line running diagonally down the back of his head is obviously a die crack. I am just wondering what those other horizontal lines are that look like cracks in the actual planchet?

with makecents here. they are die cracks. Looking at the overlay provided, there is nothing to correlated to the revers to create a clash mark at this location.
