Hey fam,
New here and was wondering if I could get your opinion on two things.

1. The coin does not have designer initials on the right corner of the building
2. Lincoln seems to have a smile.

I'm skeptical about the smile because it could be wear and tear, but I can't seem to make it out with my naked eye.

Was hoping to hear your thoughts.

@gull, first welcome to CCF. Second, while your overall pics are fine (ideally crop them next time), can you please add good closeups of both of these areas? Thx.

The missing initials are probably due to over polishing of the die, fairly common.
The picture is a little out of focus but Abe's mouth looks like it is a contact mark that makes it look that way.
Neither are considered an error.

Looks like an over polished die example, that removed the sub devices on part of the roof (left side and the initials and statue) But these were there when the die was fresh. People try to make a big thing about these, but they just die polishing issues. Same for other coins with the peg leg, halves with the weakened initials. They are just altered dies. Someday they will look back and realize if was just a die event. Nothing was forgotten. It was just polished off of the design of the dies. Look for the doubled dies and post 1990 RPMs. These are die varieties. The die events happen to the dies, they were created without the weakened/polished off devices. The one making money on these are the slabbers who like the cash flow to them (the companies). Collectors eventually of these will have no interest in them when they will realize that they are just die events.
