Please do. This coin in hand should show a rich brown color, not the cold steel shade of your original pics.

Nice repunched date! Looks as though this piece has been cleaned in its past. AU details.

Would cleaning a "woody" coin effect the woody appearance?

Normally, I don't like 'woodies very much,
but in this case,
This one is an exception. I think it helps with eye appeal.
A little bit of wear on the high point of the design, both sides.

AU-55 and to my eye, a pleasing coin !

I don't have a 2 cents in my collection in any condition. I need at least a representative piece.

I'm thinking more on the lines of AU-58 and it looks like an overdate .

Pictures still not quite sharp enough, but it certainly does look like an over date! I'd have to agree with AU-58. Sharper pics might +/- a point or two. Good eye appeal on the obverse!

Large Motto variety.
And, yes, definitely an RPD.
Describe it as if there were no picture.

Could someone explain the purpose or point of re-punching the date on this coin back in 1864?

The re-punch was probably not done on purpose. When the date was punched into the die the number punch more than likely bounced out of place inadvertently

That's just blasphemy sel_69l!

This is a really nice example of a RPD, there are no known overdates in the Two Cent series any longer, both were disproven the 1864 over 65 and the 1869 over 68. This coin shows more separation on the serifs of the 1 than I normally see.

I'd love to see much larger photos of the date area, and complete shots of the Obverse and Reverse as I'm having trouble identifying which RPD this one is. I'm usually able to nail that pretty quickly too. I'm pretty sure it's a Leone 7H as the inside left of the shield area has some clashing. Is there a die crack going upwards from the "T" in Trust on the banner (obverse) to the rim edge?

Does the reverse have these following areas present? If so then it's the Leone 7H variety.
