Call eBay again and ask for the next answering persons supervisor. Not all eBay people are on the ball. (To put it politely)

Wow. As a seller I offer much better customer service & wouldn't have tried to gouge you. I also have my account set up to automatically open unpaid item cases after 4 days. You obviously have a new seller on your hands that doesn't have a clue about customer service. I also suspect they don't have a clue about what an unpaid item case is....

just move on and do nothing. ebay's not going to force you to pay or take any action against you for 1 transaction

So not only is it very obvious they just wanted to get margin out of me with the excuse of "insurance cost", but making offers screwed me because if I had paid full price and had shipping combines I would be paying less than if I made offers in the first place!

Yes, and it sounded in the first few lines of your post as if that is what you had intended from the outset.

I will give this a shot, it may be easier for me to explain myself in a chat as well, so I may try that

As far as I am aware there's no way for me to reqest ebay to cancel the transaction

I would do this, but there's 17 different transactions, I can't have 17 unpaid item strikes on my account

Hey. I just read this post, this is crazy. Do you think maybe they don't know how to combine the shipping charges, Either way, call ebay, let them know what took place as to the offers and combined shipping, if you have a copy of the emails you can use those to back up your case. I know I have had people state that they received the wrong item because they ordered 2 or more, ebay puts those funds on hold, and the strike is against me. So I know how oyu feel. But when you added them to your cart, it should have been listed as one sale. Call ebay, and keep calling until you get some results. And Yes ask for a supervisor if you have to. So sorry this has happened to you
Things like this makes it hard on every one.

Moral of the Story: don't buy from eBay sellers who charge scumbag high shipping fees. No matter if you "think" you can combine shipping. JUST DON'T DO IT!

In the long term I suspect you're probably best off starting over with a new account and hoping not to be caught by scams like that again.

Sorry that you're going through all that. I don't think eBay can do anything for you yet, until the seller opens an unpaid item case. Since he's a new seller, maybe he just doesn't realize the seller needs to cancel the sales, especially if he's letting some flunkie assistant deal with eBay. My inclination would be to contact them again and make it clear that he needs to cancel all the eBay sales before you can buy them through his website. Worse case is they open unpaid item cases, but since it's clear in the eBay message system that you made the offers with the understanding that there would be combined shipping, I suspect eBay would cancel the sales at that point without penalizing you.

If the items are still just sitting in your cart then you haven't completed the sale and there should be no unpaid item strikes. In theory someone could still purchase the items as you have not completed the sale.

Scumbag shipping fees indeed...sorry you're going through this, OP. I'm always on the lookout for reputable sellers, less possibility of some sort of hassling.

I have ordered multiple items from the same seller over varying times and paid under the "my purchases" link. Even though shipping was listed per item all were bundled together with one rate. What I find humorous is that they talk of insurance yet can't guarantee it's arrival shipping from the "business"? You've discovered a scam artist for sure. Run and let the chips fall where they may.

Sounds like an jerk seller. Definitely try contacting ebay again and include screenshots of your communications with the seller. They said they would combine postage, then didn't.
Buying from any seller that has a new account and little feedback is always high risk. If you are going to try out a new seller, I highly recommend making a single small purchase (less than $20) first so that if you do get messed up, as least you won't lose a heap of money.
