This is the clad half dollar, not silver. Distribution was 119,520 pieces.

Still, if it graded MS-67 or higher you probably made out okay.

My aim is to trade it for some silver if possible at a LCS. But before I do, I would like to know what a fair offer would be. Thus I posted here to get opinions on grading and go from there.

This half dollar was in a PCI holder graded MS70. PCI is not regarded as a reputable service and hence no longer exists. Presenting it to a dealer in this holder would not doubt result in a automatic downgrade so I thought I would feel out opinions here presenting it out of the holder. A true case of "buy the coin, not the holder".
If it does make MS70, then I did OK and could pick up a few ozt for the stack.

Could be an argument for selling this in its original, obsolete PCI holder, if there's a niche market for that. Would be nice to hear what an expert like @commems has to say.

Here are the in holder images requested. I was quite surprised at how easily this holder was to open which causes me to raise an eyebrow. Yet it is quite a clean and sharp strike with great eye appeal. I was unable to locate any references to confirm the registration #. The holographic reverse sticker reads in bold print "WARRANTY VIOD IF REMOVED" over "VALID SECURE ORIGINAL SEAL AUTHENTIC" repeated in smaller block letters which cannot be seen un the images. The holder will not snap back together. I hope this helps.   |

@Dowhat: Based on your comments/description of the holder - along with the fact that you stated you removed the coin from it - I would have to say the holder will add no premium to the coin's "raw" price. It would have been slight if wholly original, but in its present state, such a case is a non-factor.
As far as the coin itself, it does look fairly clean (as do many modern US commemorative half dollars).though the surface texture shown in your images is a bit more than expected (likely an image artifact). In any case, I don't believe it would be worth the time and expense to submit the coin to either PCGS or NGC - it's not a very valuable coin.

Thanks commems for your feedback. Believe me, I had no intentions to submit this for grading to anyone. My aim was to use it to exchange for some silver at the LCS. Think I could get $1 FV of pre 65 for it?

Nice coin. I love Civil War Commens!
I look at that coin and see a 10 year old drummer boy in the front of the advancing line and dying first!. Most of the drummers were just little kids. The drummer in this one is portrayed a little older. That was probably done to not represent the horrors of the war.

dsking, with you mam. I am a civil war buff and just may hold on to this one. It was what attracted me to it in the first place.
I once had a 1925 Stone Mountain MS, hard times came between us. I will never be able to get another one like it.
Any coin depicting brothers in arms causes me to overspend.
