It means that you would have to have somebody that ranks higher then him either with the rank or time in rank at the time the coins are used to see who will pay for the drinks. Or so I have been told . They weren't in use bqck in the day when I was in the swabby set!. Depending on how bad a party wants that coin will determine the wprice other wise around $10.00 or so in the counter of the LCS.

Here is a PDF on them

The french phone over globe is the symbol for my rating (job) in the navy.

FB = facebook. We are a small community with only a few of us on each ship. FB groups are a good way for us to swap knowledge, cuss and discuss or just plain network.

French phone? Symbol of your rating? Really? With an American flag inside. Man, I never would have guessed that.

Very interesting! And the 2 April 1948? What does that represent?

The flag is just a stylistic choice for the coin. On our uniforms it is just white or navy blue stitching depending on the uniform.

2 April 1948 is when the navy established my rating. Before that our duties were handled by electricians mates.

Have a great day!

Well, okay. I just don't get the whole French phone thing? Why is a French phone on an American uniform? Some kind of COMMS history thing?
