My set arrived in today's mail, so I though I'd put up larger images of the set than what is available on the Mint's website. I think the Mint did another nice job putting together this special set. The packaging of a proof SSB silver dollar along with a reproduction of Francis Scott Key's original draft of his poem and the additional educational information about our national anthem -- "The Star-Spangled Banner" -- makes for a very informative commemorative set. And the set is definitely worth the price of $53.95 -- it's actually still $1.00 cheaper than the individual proof coin! I still wish this coin program would have been released in 2014, the actual bicentennial of the Fort McHenry shelling and Key's subsequent penning of the Star-Spangled Banner, but I understand the sponsor's desire to have enough time for hoped for coin sales to produce funds to help support the planned anniversary celebrations in a couple of years. Enjoy! Okay, this is going to sound odd coming from me, the renowned OGP cracker, but I actually like the coin more in this packaging. I know there was some grief about calling this a set, but I think it deserves that designation. Very nice!

I got mine about a week ago and am very happy with it. They really did do a great job on these. Terrible job of advertising as always, but a fine product

Nickel I believe this set and the defender of freedom are still on sale if you feel like going to the mint site. I'm almost positive this one is at least, wasnt released to long ago.

Yes, as of today (21 June) both sets are still available. The Infantry set is nearing a sell-out, however, so if interested I would act promptly.

I got the infantry with the dog tag for my hubby and it really looks excellent in the packaging. You know, I just realized I justify most of my coin purchases as "buying for my hubby"...

I love mine, but I got it in the typical US Mint packaging case before this version was released. It is indeed a very beautiful coin. I especially love the reverse design. Gorgeous!

Nice, thanks for sharing! I have both the proof and unc in standard packaging, may have to pick up this special set. Looks like some care and thought went into the presentation. The purist in me still thinks the coin is too early by two years for a "bicentennial" but that's just a minor quibble. The reverse is exceptionally well executed.

I also agree that it's weird that we're commerorating this historical event two years early, but waiting two years probably would not have been too late for the beneficiary of the surcharges, the Maryland War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission, to effectively do what it needs to do with the funds. On the other hand, if you think of it as more of a commemorative of America's second war for independence, then it is timely as a bicentennial for the War of 1812.
Either way, I purchased this set and also an uncirculated version of the coin as it's only one of two modern commems I find appealing, the other being the Lincoln Bicentennial Silver Dollar. This SSB set and the Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Set are really great special sets put out by the Mint.

I love the coin either way, but I would have also loved to have seen a War of 1812 coin this year then have these come out in 2 years

Reading this thread again was another trip back in memory lane - nearly 13 years in fact. It was just as enjoyable today as when I first read it back in the day. Living outside Baltimore MD I have had the opportunity to visit the Ft. McHenry National Monument on numerous occasions. A highlight of the visit is an ~20 minute video of the War of 1812 and Ft. McHenry 1814 bombardment that is shown on a large screen in the visitors center. At the conclusion of the video, a docent present in the room asks all the visitors to rise for a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. Just as the first notes of music begin to play, the video screen opens sideways and for the balance of the song you are looking out a large window directly at the American flag flying above Ft. McHenry. Quite the dramatic moment indeed! If you are in the area I recommend you see for yourself.
