I still can't believe it... paying that much for a holographic sticker. For that kind of cash, one could buy a really nice, serious rarity in Canadian Numismatics...

I agree with you on that SPP-Ottawa. If this buyer ever decided to break up that roll and sell the individual last pennies...it is worthless because it just came from a batch of the last ever pennies. Each penny in that roll just sold over $120+ each.

Exactly. Like a serial number on a bill. I'm sure the $6800 is no big deal to the purchaser. There are a lot of collectors who have lots of $. Not everyone has to rack it up on their credit card.

Just wait until the mint releases the last 50 or so pennies that went into the bowl on the video where Flaherty presses the last few pennies.

This one roll of pennies is worth more than my car!

On the whole I think I'd rather have the car.

Wow eBay fees for this item are around $250. Lets not forget sales tax, around $750 and income tax around $1400. I hope the seller pays his taxes. Either way, a very good payday for a $10 investment.

Just don't drop that roll before you deliver it.

I agree with SPP-Ottawa...IMO I think its crazy but on the other hand, it isn't just a regular roll of pennies...there is some symbolism involved. Its clear that there are people out there that want it and that are willing to pay top dollar for it....will it be worth that in 10 years, who knows and who cares. The fact remains, it does serve as a piece of numismatic history and the end of a era.

OK, who wants to contact the buyer and give him the bad news?

These are NOT the last 50 pennies. They are just 50 of the last million pennies just like any other roll...

Better yet, don't tell him. I've got a bunch of "First Strike" Silver Eagles I can sell him, maybe I can get $500/piece since they're the very first ones... *cough* *cough*

That roll of pennies is more expensive than my last 5 car purchases combined.

If a TPG would go along with this charade, and cracks out the roll, then presumably they would add a comment: Last Roll #n/50

So, now:

1) What are #1-#49 worth
2) What is #50 worth, the symbolic last penny put into circulation?

At this point the last roll is threatened by its own success. A fake sticker could be created. But, I don't think any TPG will authenticate the roll.

With so much publicity and hype surrounding this roll I think it is time to dump them. It won't take long for fakes to show up. Even if they don't fake the #20,000 roll a cheep label and 50 cents worth of pennies will return $20 to $30. You fake a 1,000 or 2,000 roll, that would be $20,000 to $50,000. And your cost is only a few thousand dollars. Definitely worth doing. If fakes show up on eBay, the rolls will loose value quickly. They would show up selling from Asia or Europe. Might as well open them up and look for a 2013 penny. If you can fake a Rolex or an I-phone, this label is easy to fake. Anybody sell any rolls to China?
