Dear All,

I have put together a comprehensive list of all the known types of bronze coinage of Philip II of Macedon including the 3 variants I own which are apparently unpublished. No one single published reference lists all variants.
https://www.ancientcointraders.com/...ferences.php

Hope it is useful to anyone else that collects these.

Quite interesting. However I can't find the weights of the coins anywhere listed. Is this information available?

Hi,

Thanks,

Not all references describe the weights of their specimens so did not include. Typically they are between 5.5g to 6.5g for the single unit variants. I have lots of them, including bulk lots I haven't photographed and attributed yet and they seem to be all in that range.

Just got a postcard announcement that a second edition of Levinson's "The Early Dated Coins of Europe, 1234-1500" was published in August (2019) and now available for sale ($88.95 hardcover or $39.99 digitally). I haven't decided yet if I'll pick up a copy of this newer edition, but his first effort is among my all-time fave coin books.

Very nice, I'll check out the site.

I missed out recently a very nice high grade provincial showing myself in a Swiss auction. I also need to get one of my solidi that I made back when I was still Emperor and before I moved to a retirement community in Florida [where else]? I thought I saved a bag of them somewhere when forced to flee Mediolanum but apparently not...

I'm undecided between one of my new styles and the older more traditional solidi which frankly, look like all my predecessors'.

I should mention that I've my own website tho it really isn't responsive yet [works best on a computer screen] and is omitting much history. Nontheless:

This is a book about medieval French coins (it's in french) this site has a lot of free books and catalogues from collections, museums or auctions (they are old, could be outdated, and are in many languages like french, spanish, german, italian...) But I hope it can be useful to someone.

I know most of the reference works given in this thread are for the ancient world, but ...
For anyone who is collecting older (pre-unification) Italian coins or has some in their collection by chance, Corpus Nummorum Italicorum is a comprehensive reference work in 20 volumes, and over 10,000 pages, covering coins from the Carolingian era to the 19th century for all regions of Italy, which is available online here: https://www.numismaticadellostato.i...oteca/corpus

The scale of medieval/early modern Italian coins in my collection doesn't justify investment in a more recent (hard copy) reference like Biaggi or Varesi, so I use CNI.

It's organized by region, and you can download pdf files of any volume. It's in Italian, but not so tough to navigate if you can master a handful of terms, and then have a translator program at your disposal.
