Wonder what numismatic 'policing' would look like within the
ebay enterprise? Would
ebay hire a cadre of credentialed numismatic experts to evaluate challenges to listings, or contract out that service? Certainly it would cost something to do that. Wonder where those costs would be shouldered? Would
ebay recognize the Coin Community Forum as a 'final' authority?
Interesting--eBay 'automatically' sends certain trading cards, such as Pokémon, out to a third party grading service for authentication if the sales/purchase price reaches or exceeds a $250(?) threshold. For example, a Pokémon card graded by PSA (and is in a PSA holder) sells for $400. That card and its holder are sent off for authentication--using an
ebay mailing label provided. If the card passes, it is sent on to the buyer. Only then is the transaction complete. Do something similar for coins?
What fun...
