Earlier in this thread I posted the selectively gold-plated version of this 2016 Canadian silver dollar (See it here.), but thought I would add the full-color version that the Royal Canadian Mint ( RCM) produced and included in a Special Edition Proof set.
The SS Great Eastern was the ship responsible for laying the first enduring Transatlantic Cable in 1866; the coin commemorates the milestone event's 150th anniversary.
The SS Great Eastern had multiple methods of propulsion: screw, paddle and sail. Though it was primarily a steam-powered, propeller-driven ship, its sails could also be used to propel the ship. The sails had to be used independently from the engines, however, due to the potential for them to catch fire from the hot exhaust emitted through the funnels when the steam engines were operating.
