Added this to my $2 USN set last weekend. The 1953 Plain is a fairly common deuce, but it took me several months to find one I liked at the right price.

Thanks, but not quite! I still have two to go to complete the series, including the big dog 1928B. They're out there, but at double or more over what they've sold for recently at Heritage, so I'll just wait.

Besides being a star note; I was intrigued by the face plate and back plate numbers being a 1

tech - I think face and black plate numbers of 1 are common for this issue - here, G1/1.

I would be interested in learning more about front and back plate numbers and the probability of them both being #1 as in the two 1963 deuces above. All I know is that these numbers are not related to one another. Steve in Tampa, anyone else care to comment?

I think that star notes for each series were printed first. Once the stars were printed then the BEP transitioned to printing the regular notes. I think that's why we see plate combos of 1/1 on many of the red seal stars from that era.

I agree with Sky and will add, typically the BEP prints a batch of star notes first or early in a series, but not always. During the printing of series 2013 $10 notes it was well over a year before any stars were printed....this was an anomaly.

My significant other received these in change today from our local CVS. I know that they are spenders but I was somewhat impressed at fact that not only did she get two of them but I believe they were also from the same printed sheet.
