Thank you very much for updating us on your project, coppernickeldaddy. In addition to my enjoyment of numismatics, I find coin statistics very interesting on their own. By the way, do you keep full stats on the pre-1958 dates? (If so, let's do some curve-fitting.)

Here's my quick and fun story on Jeffersons. I live in Canada but collect them. I have a complete date/mint set, and so there are only a few varieties on my list, such as over-mintmarks, etc. One variety recently on my list was 1941-S (Small S). On my most recent trip to the States, it showed up in my change at In-N-Out Burger! Not terribly rare, but cool that it found me instead of the other way around!

I finished working $100 this evening and found 14 pre-1960, 1 of which was a 45p silver and I also found a 1938 that looks in pretty dog-gone good shape for being in circulation for 70 years

Hi bibd! And how are you, o-g?

I've been under the weather, so I am running behind in updates. Opening the rolls takes little energy, but doing the updates actually takes some work, which I've just not been up to doing! I'm actually sitting on a couple of updates, including the 5000 roll milestone update, where I will list the breakdown of every date from 1938 to 1958. I should mention while I'm thinking about it that the rolls that I am going through tonight (5100 roll mark) I found another 1939s! So, the keys are out there!

Awesome... I will look forward to the data and try to do some regression analysis. I suspect that the sampled quantity, divided by mintage, will decay exponentially with the age of the coin. What will be really neat will be to see what drop-off the Buffalo nickels, war nickels, and other key dates exhibit relative to the common Jeffersons.

I'm great - thanks - and happy to be a new member of this very informative group.

I also love searching rolls...right now I'm back on pennies..$25 box at a time

My favorite time to do my checking is wile I'm on the toilet!

BTW Do you re-roll them and return them to the bank? or use one of those coin machines at the grocery stores (8.9% fee)?

fasteddie, did you REALLY have to share that tiny toilet tidbit?

I'd re-roll them and dump into a different bank. I recommend not re-rolling on the toilet, though. If a couple of pennies fall in, are you going in after them?

I just finished working $100 and found 13 pre-60, 9 from the 40s and 4 from the 50s. One was a 1956 in strong AU...if it hadn't come from a circulated roll I would be calling it BU. Two of the 40's were silver, a 45p and a 45s. I also found my first Bahama's nickel, a 2004. Time to mix up a drink with an umbrella stuck in it and relax

Worked a box of nickels tonight. 24 pre-1959's. Nothing to spectacular, but I did find a '38 which was the last coin I needed to have a Jefferson from every year before 1959. Now its time to fill in the holes in that set. 17 more to go.
