Apologies for that being hard to read - tab doesn't show up in the posted messages I guess.

Anyway, here are some remarks:

1. Methodology: This used the 5000 roll data of Coppernickeldaddy. To determine the predicted value, I took the sum of all nearby dates found, divided by the sum of their mintages, and multiplied by the mintage of the given date. What do I mean by 'nearby'? I used roughly a 3-4 year interval centered about the date, except that I separated pre-silver Jeffersons and silver Jeffersons as two bins on their own.

2. Drawbacks: It is false to assume all dates decay uniformly like this. For instance, 1950D has a strange history. These were specifically hoarded, as I seem to recall reading in the Red Book. I wouldn't be surprised if other semi-keys (e.g. 39D) were pulled by collectors way back in the 1950s. Also, the big chunk of 1958Ds found skews the data a bit. Finally, it goes without saying that the sample size of nickels (though huge) is perhaps too limited to draw concrete conclusions.

3. Comments: Of the ten lowest mintage dates (none of which are silver), only 1950 -- in 9th place -- and 1948S -- in 10th place -- were observed more than their predicted value. Amazingly, 1958 -- the 14th rarest mintage -- greatly exceeds its prediction! And the winner is...

1952S !

This was counted true to its prediction, up to one decimal place!

Both are plain old Good w/full rims. Interesting how the rims are full but there are areas of weak detail. But if I remember correctly, this type wore like that frequently.

Sorry I have been away, I have picked up a very stressful job lately and have not been able to do much forum reading but I wondered about coppernickeldaddy and the quest for a 1951 S and it appears since I have been here that one has been found. That is absolutely awesome. I wish I could find the post when you found it because I'm sure you had something to say.
Congrats!
