We had a pretty successful box last weekend. 3 silvers (43P, 44P, and 45D), and 5 foreign coins (2 Canadian Nickels, a 1959 20 Rappen from Switzerland, a 1994 Five Cents from Bermuda and a 1998 1 Krone from Norway).

Talk about being at the right place at the right time. This was my first Buffalo nickel from circulation in two years.

I searched a box of nickels today. I found about 15-20 pre-1960's, 2 Canadian nickels, and one 1936 Buffalo nickel. It was a great box. I still have a box of cents to search. I also have a ziplock bag of loose rolls of cents to search also. I will post the cent results soon hopefully.

In the spirit of the OP, I compared my war nickel finds to the original mintage. I have 104 loose war nickels. I've excluded my collections because I bought some and inherited some of the nickels and can't differentiate.

Year/Mint Expected % Actual % Difference
1942P 6.66% 3.85% -2.81%
42S 3.78% 1.92% -1.86%
43D 1.76% 1.92% 0.16%
43P 31.18% 45.19% 14.02%
43S 11.96% 3.85% -8.11%
44D 3.71% 0.00% -3.71%
44P 13.70% 18.27% 4.57%
44S 2.48% 0.00% -2.48%
45D 4.28% 0.96% -3.31%
45P 13.73% 12.50% -1.23%
45S 6.77% 11.54% 4.77%

In my most recent box I also came across this (acid bathed?) coin:

BigAppleBucky, that Nickel is probably most likely a dryer coin. You can safely spend it, since it's been damaged after it left the U.S. Mint.

Had a pretty productive box last week. Ended up with a 1929P Buffalo nickel (an ender), and the other highlights were a 38P, and a beautiful 52D (an upgrade to the collection). Also found a 2007 Germany 5 Euro Cents coin and a Minneapolis/St. Paul Transit Token, which is for sure worth more than 5 cents!
