Thanks for the encouragement, which is always appreciated with the ups and downs of coin roll hunting.
My local US Bank branch unfortunately didn't have a nickels box yesterday, so I had to settle for a penny box. I'm not complaining, though, as it's getting tougher these days to get any type of box, so I'm grateful for getting that.
I now have about 5 days' worth of pennies to go through after getting some customer rolls today, so I'm a happy camper.
Cheers!

It's a little odd that a teller could effectively invent bank policy without management consultation. There are tellers that get "Napoleon complexes"... I've run into a handful of them in the 7+ years that I've been doing this. A few times they consulted another member of their staff - sometimes they relented and let me get coins, other times their coworker and/or boss affirmed their "policy" and I left either with nothing or just a small portion of the number of rolls/box(es) I was requesting. Pretty much every one of them is no longer at the banks I frequent. I've really never had issues getting coin at any of my banks with just a normal customer account other than with those handful of tellers. In my experience, building rapport with your banks and tellers goes a very long way towards avoiding problems in terms of getting coin with just a regular, non-business account. Quote:

You're welcome! Lots of peaks and valleys in this hobby of hours, but I wouldn't trade it for anything as the thrills are always awesome!

This week's search of 20 customer wrapped rolls: 1949, 1954D, and 1958; two Buffalo's 1920P and 1928P. I'll take it.

1958 is a better date nickel. You did very well in just 20 rolls.

2 Buffs and a 58 was good for only 20 rolls.

"Quality over quantity" I always say... 2 Buffs and a better-date Jefferson amongst 5 pre-60s is quite the nice ratio... Went through 1,000 MWR I got yesterday today... a very average-ish for me 7 pre-60s, but one was a War Nickel (1945-S) and another was a 1953-S (another sub 20M minted coin). :)

Our luck here ebbs and flows to the extreme. I got a $100 box a couple weeks ago that had TWO 1948 S, a 1951 S, a V nickel and a crisp 1936 D buffalo. In that single box we had 36 pre-1960s. About as good a box as I could ever expect and probably a small collection dump. Then, a week later, in 40 rolls, only 5 pre-1960. Finally, in a 10-roll search this past Saturday we filled our 1949 S slot, found a 1944 S, and added another buffalo to the herd. All from the same bank. We are down to a 44 D, 45 D and of course the 50 D but we have pulled a LOT of 1958 Ps lately, a few in outstanding condition. So much fun and with all the leftover "trash nickels", we just re-roll, dump, and go to our favorite few branches for new ones. I have really enjoyed doing this with my nearly 7-year-old daughter (we have 3 other kids who haven't taken to it, which is fine) and explaining the history of what things were going on in the world when these coins were minted. It's brought us both immense joy and she is usually the discoverer of the best coins!

The last box of nickels was a dud. The box before that produced 7 Buffalo nickels. 4 no dates,1 20 something, 1,1926, 1, 1936 no War Nickels an no 2009. I'll bet in the last 7 boxes I only found 3 2009.

Did you find any 40s and 50s nickels? I know they're not really that special but it's fun finding them.
