What is the purpose of the registry?
If I add my seven H/A notes to Colhand1's six we have instantly increased the supply by 10%, this would probably reduce their potential value by a similar amount.
It's the perception of scarcity that drives demand and thus prices.
I'm not about to cut off my nose to spite my face.

H/A notes are not scarce, there are probably half a dozen for sale on eBay.

J/A is anther story.
I can see the purpose of a registry for those as we don't know how many were printed, and the list should be updated as higher numbered examples are found.

If a registry is deemed necessary for a particular prefix than it is generally accepted amongst the collector community that the PREFIX (variation) is very tough & collectible. Registries are usually set up to get a grasp on the high & low serial number ranges.

With all due respect, I really doubt that entering your note(s) into a registry will affect the BV (unless there was a hoard discovered & several were entered- but this is pretty unlikely for the notes we're discussing). For 99% of the scarcer BoC issues full SN ranges were not released.

I believe registries are set up for getting a better picture of high & low serial number. If your note falls within the known ranges than your note would be expected to fetch a similar BV as catalogue. If the Serial Number (SN) of your note falls above or below the expected ranges the note may actually get a higher than expected Book Value. Usually registries show that certain small ranges (reams) of notes were released.

Although extensive ranges have been reported for the H/A it is doubtful that a full 10M were released. This has happened many times over (take the Osborne-Towers $5, the Devil Face replacements as examples). There are registries set up for the above & scarce replacements. The registries take up volunteer collector time so how well they're maintained is another matter.

Often bank distribution centres will get recalls. More recently the 2003 BER, BEK & BEL & the 2011 HAF-HAL $5 were recalled. There may be registries set up for these too.

That's my best guess. Hope that helps answer your question "DBM"

Great explanation by walk2dwater.

Like you said DBM, the H/A notes are not scarce (this is common knowledge, so updating the registry should have no effect on values). Someone started the registry for these notes years ago and had very few listed, so I added as many as I could from past auctions, and eBay listings to fill it out. There are probably quite a few (H/A notes, not J/A) on eBay now that haven't been added to my list.
