Modern Coin Mart - George T. Morgan is well-known for designing the highly popular Morgan silver dollar, as well as serving as the 7th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint from 1879 to 1917. He is considered by some to be one of the greatest coin designers in American history. In the summer of 2006, some of his original coin sketches were discovered in the Smithsonian archives. Among these sketches was something special - the design for a $100 5 oz. gold coin!

$100 Silver Union Commemorative

Now that it has been brought back to light, it was decided that this design would not be forgotten again. Working directly with the Smithsonian we created a 1 oz. .999 fine silver commemorative proof struck with the historical design! While it is not legal tender, collectors and admirers of the great work of George T. Morgan now have a chance to see what the proposed 1876 $100 Union coin would have looked like.
