Why are DDR's on the ATB Quarters, never seen on the outer ring areas? the ATB single squeeze die creation process does not create a DDR on that area. All the DDR's are seen more on the center devices of the design. So look for the DDR's in the Target areas http://goccf.com/t/431998#3714683Why are there more coin machine doubled, than the 1969-S DDO-001 doubled die? Machine Doubling is a common striking event. a doubled die comes from a doubled die. because they caught this DDO early, there are only a few of the coins that got out in circulation http://goccf.com/t/432009#3714738

What is a Rim Fin? raised edge on the outside edge near the collar http://goccf.com/t/432032#3715274What is a die Chip? Why are they die events and common? breakaway area on a die that leaves a void. when the void is filled, it will show as a raised area the shape of the void on the coins. part of the die aging process and easy to find. http://goccf.com/t/432036#3715292What does a Hub and die look like? steps in the creation of hubs, dies, coins. negatives and positives follow the chain of command. http://goccf.com/t/432028#3715311How are reeds added to the edge of coins? during the strike the metal is moved from the center outwards into the collar, thus die wear and edges are added to the coin as they are smaller than the finished coins http://goccf.com/t/431920#3715802

Can usually a single device be altered on a doubled die? not usually. The stronger doubled dies will show direction from hub misalignment. Not often that a single device be affected. If so it would be very minor. http://goccf.com/t/432151#3716405Want to find more doubled dies? learn how/what areas to look for doubled dies of the coins you are searching. spending more time on a coin will often find something that is not a doubled die. so know what to look for first! check your map to reach your destination. http://goccf.com/t/432131#3716419 Is hub doubling in a different direction than Machine Doubling? Yes and no. (But mostly yes.) Machine Doubling often affects the verticals on the devices. doubled dies can be rotational hub doubling (class 1 doubled dies) or horizontal on the class 2 doubled dies. But on more of the nickels it is often seen in that pattern of being horizontal. http://goccf.com/t/432127#3716432What is the difference between the multi-hub dies and the single squeeze dies? profile of the devices. (Single squeeze cents have a lower profile) Die wear differences: single squeeeze dies are affected on the fields. On the multi-hub process, the devices are affected in the direction of the die wear pattern. (towards the rim direction) http://goccf.com/t/432136#3716435How can you tell if a coin was doubled struck and not transferred by a vise squeeze? devices will be equally struck in correct position and not mirrored. http://goccf.com/t/432192#3716897

Striation lines? What is that? movement of the dies that make find scratches when the metal slides/moves on the coin post strike. not a doubled die. http://goccf.com/t/434351#37302271909-S V.D.B. cent. How to know if it is the real deal, or not? a lot of fakes out there, so be sure before the purchase. questionables should be left with the seller. knowing this link information will help. http://goccf.com/t/434383#3730733Does the mint alter dies? What areas are affected? yes. die polishing to remove damage, enhancement to strengthen weaken design areas. these are not doubled dies, as it is weakening of the die design. a doubled die will be seen on the first coin struck by that doubled die. http://goccf.com/t/434382#3730743How can I tell the difference between a Grease Filled Die and die polishing? How will the devices look different so I can tell? smaller devices indicate a polishing. wider/taller devices make the tops of the base of the devices appear without the tops of the tapered devices. http://goccf.com/t/434378#3730745What does distortion on a single squeeze die look like? Note the motto on the quarters? the movement of the hub alters the die on these devices, making them distorted http://goccf.com/t/434368#3730763 Why are they important? They help identify certain dies if present. certain locations of scratches last longer on dies. fields fade fast. next to devices last longer. inside closed devices they last the longest. http://goccf.com/t/434323#3730770
