Yes, a few times. Some with more luck than others. Not too many places nearby where I live now that are good for panning though.

It is truly therapeutic, gulls calling, waves lapping and doing the
final swirl of the pan to wash over a hint of yellow at first and
then it is a picker that makes a noise when you put it in the vial,
you really get a rush. Then you get permanent gold fever.

Some shots from yesterday.

nice.
I was doing a little research about gold panning in Ireland
and there is definitely gold here and its 24k.

I also read that all minerals, gold, silver etc. belong to
the state. People are allowed to pan for gold and are allowed
to keep the finds so long as the nuggets are not over 2g smaller
flakes are ok to keep, oh and we are not allowed to sell the finds.
the state treat small finds by individuals as "hobby" panning.

Anything on a larger scale needs an extraction license !

Usually the gold has a bit of silver mixed in, that may vary
between 70% and 95% gold with the remainder mostly silver and trace
copper and iron. Our gold is about 92% here. Ireland is rich in gold
deposits. There are youtube videos of guys panning, and websites devoted to
prospecting. A 2 gram nugget is large and if that is the limit I think you
could keep most of what you find. As for trading it in, just melt it into jewelry,
or make a big gold button, I would love to cast a medal or coin.

Near Dahlonega, GA I went a few years ago (and probably in my youth sometime), to a road-side "Pan for Gold" location. I got a few flakes.

Not the actual panning, but in this area.

Haven't panned for gold, but I HAVE panned for sapphires,
at a place called Nullamanna, about 10 miles east north east of Inverell, in N.S.W.

I have gone after gold nuggets with a metal detector.
Pointless searching for coins in Australia with such equipment. Coinwise, all you find is junk bin stuff.

Best done as a sideline in a camping holiday, rather than the main reason for the holiday.
