Quote: Here's a wee 1000 Lira (P-109b) note with a subtle bird between the 1000 marker & Marco Polo within the design: Very nice! Quote: Not sure if the lion with wings (mythical figure called a "griffin") in the circular design also qualifies as an "aviator" but he's there too (in case you can't see the bird). An interesting backup plan.

with "jbuck" & like the Ugandan example from the mid-60's. I've had my eye on the Columbus anniversary note hailing from Bahamas too. This $20 features the Karearea (New Zealand Falcon) on the reverse & is P-179 (#AB000189) from 1992:

-Thanks "jbuck" This yellow-eyed penguin doesn't fly but its still considered a bird featured on this 1992 P-177 $5.00 from New Zealand: -in 2015, a similar polymer design of this banknote (see: http://www.banknote.ws/COLLECTION/c.../NZL0191.htm with upgraded security features like the see-through window) won the banknote of the year for that year.

The bird depicted on this note is a streamertail ( Trochilus polytmus) which is considered to be a member of the hummingbird family and is also the national bird of Jamaica.
