Sounds a bit "fishy" that he hasn't checked on it for 11 months and that it was also locked.

Apparently someone who isn't very bright would be my guess...

Also, assuming he is the only one who got robbed something tells me somebody knew they were there and could have gotten the key and returned the key without his knowing...
