If you love the work of Augustus Saint Gaudens, visit Union Station, the train station in Washington DC. His life-sized statues adorn the interior colonnade of the building as well as the top of the archways of the building exterior. The interior statues by the master sculptor can be viewed up close from the interior 2nd floor mezzanine shops and restaurants in Union Station. The architecture and sculpture are free and spectacular. Well worth buying a cup of coffee and spending a few minutes admiring the belle-epoque splendor.

The shops in Union Station aren't all that upscale. There is a Pizzeria Uno in the second floor mezzanine where you can get all-you-can-eat chesse and broccoli soup while sitting a couple of feet away from these priceless statues.

Followed my own advice and had lunch today on the second floor mezzanine of the circus that is Union Station on the eve of the inauguration of a new President. The St. Gaudens rows of statues were as majestic as ever. Interesting crowd filling into DC. According to the news, a guy set himself on fire on Pennsylvania Ave yesterday.
