Another slow sales week for the Basketball HOF coins, just 6,040 total coins sold (vs. 12,393 last week; just 48.7% of last week's total):
COIN DESCRIPTION / AS OF JUNE 7 / AS OF JUNE 14 / AS OF JUNE 21 / CHANGE FROM PREVIOUS 2020 BASKETBALL HOF - GOLD PROOF / 5,750 / 6,284 / 6,527 / 243 2020 BASKETBALL HOF - GOLD UNC / 2,519 / 2,666 / 2,732 / 66 2020 BASKETBALL HOF - SILVER PROOF / 44,215 / 50,016 / 53,086 / 3,070 2020 BASKETBALL HOF - SILVER UNC / 14,395 / 15,956 / 16,602 / 646 2020 BASKETBALL HOF - CLAD PROOF / 18,312 / 20,168 / 21,099 / 931 2020 BASKETBALL HOF - CLAD UNC / 9,709 / 10,655 / 11,080 / 425 2020 BASKETBALL HOF - KIDS SET / 20,280 / 21,828 / 22.487 / 659
Week 1 is always the big sales week for new commemorative coins and sales always drop in the weeks that follow, but I think the slow sales of these coins are surprising some in the industry.

Naismith introductory pricing ends at 3PM Eastern today. If you were on the fence, now is probably the time to buy before they receive a price hike.

Low sales figures shouldn't surprise anyone. The steady decline over time is self explanatory. Obviously the hardcore collector base is no greater than the lowest sale @ 2,700 pcs for the BU half eagle. Some of those were likely purchased speculatively. I have no interest in the entire issue.

The colorized half dollar and silver dollar are scheduled for release on 28 August.

Don't know if anyone saw (the post above did mention an updated release date), but they do have images of the colorized version. It looks like the obverse is not colorized, but for the clad half-dollar, the basketball, rim, and net is colorized. On the silver dollar, the rim and net is colorized. TBH I don't really mind them since they didn't color the whole coin (still not interested in buying anyway). With that said, I'm curious how they look in person compared to the picture on the mint's website.

The painting is so inconsistent between the two ...not feeling it.

I am once again surprised by the Mint's pricing - $95 for the colorized silver dollar (a 28% jump over the standard proof coin at regular price) and $55 for the colorized half dollar (a 25% jump). I think we all realized the colorized coins would be more, but I didn't think 25%+ more!

I'm conflicted on these. At first I preferred the half, but as I look at it, I increasingly think it's over colorized. It would be nicer if they had just stuck to the ball.

With that pricing I think I will have to pass. $150 for $1.50 face. Ouch.

Does anyone know if there is "introductory" pricing, or is that the set and final price?
I'm just imagining that these may even become MORE expensive.

There is no mention of an "Introductory Price" on the sales page for either of the colorized basketball coins - there typically is such a statement for commemorative coins if an initial discount is available. Check the pages for the Women's Suffrage coins, for example.

Particularly this "collectable painting error" ;-) So how are these getting painted anyway?
