Quote: Arguably the first true British commemorative coin @NumisRob: Nice example! Definitely a modern-era coin that has a secure place in the history of British coinage. (I've enjoyed having one in my collection for a number of years!)

Quote: Arguably the first true British commemorative coin - 50% silver crown issued in 1935 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of King George V: Very nice! Quote: Here's a set of Booker T Washington commemorative half dollars from 1946 in one of the original three-coin black leatherette holders that were used to distribute the coins. An outstanding looking set!

Here's the silver dollar version of the Canadian Arctic Expedition commemorative (with selective gold plating) from Canada's 2013 Fine Silver Proof Set. Bonnie Ross is artist who created the design.

The Canadian Arctic Expedition commemorative looks great. I like the selective gold plating. It works very well I think.

@jbuck/NumisEd: I agree! The Canadian Arctic Expedition silver dollar's design works on several levels and the selective gold-plating on the foreground expedition team really makes the figures pop!
When it's done well, I very much like silver coins with selective gold-plating.
