@wannabfree: Excellent example of that Lombardo Mint medal for the centennial of the Canadian Confederation. They often come spotted - long ago, I lost track of how many spotted examples I came across!

As you're likely aware, the medals were available in unadorned bronze for $2.50, silver-plated bronze for $3.00 and gold-plated bronze (like your medal) for $3.50. A pure silver version was also available for $10.00. (All prices given are in Canadian Dollars; US prices were less to account for the exchange rate.)

Here's a commemorative $3.00 coin from Canada - the 2015 400th Anniversary of Samuel de Champlain in Huronia silver coin.

It commemorates the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlain's journey to, and exploration of, the land west of the island of Montreal, including Huronia.

Here's one from 2014. It was struck by the Royal Canadian Mint ( RCM) to honor the brave Canadians who volunteered to serve and be part of Canada's Expeditionary Force (CEF) in World War I. The CEF was the segment of Canada's military that went overseas to serve, initially, on the western front during WWI and then, subsequently, in other war theaters; 424,000 of the approximately 630,000 that answered the call for new enlistments went overseas.

In 2005, the Royal Canadian Mint supplemented its regular commemorative silver dollar with one that incorporated red enamel. The coin marked the 40th anniversary of the adoption of a National Flag by Canada and the enameled version added red to the appropriate elements of the flag to make it more realistic.

You can learn more about the coin and the contest behind its creation here: 2005 Canadian Flag Coin and CD-ROM Set.

Generally dislike colour, but this does look well done. I like how it emphasizes the cameo.

I'm not a big fan of colorized coins either, but the Canadian silver dollars that incorporate enamel are, IMO, quite well done.

The 2005 Flag SD with enamel continues to be popular today, and typically sells for 2X to 3X (or more!) of its issue price of $99.95 CAD. The final mintage/sales figure for the coin was 4,898 (of 5,000 potential).
