Quote: I've often wondered... If you live in Cincinnati and you want to go coin roll hunting, do you "take a walk, just a little walk... down by the Banks of the Ohio" ? Quote: Most of the time, though, it meant "Banged Up."

Quote: the term "BU" should be banished from the numismatic lexicon. I won't bid on any coin when that overused term / phrase is used in the title of the auction. Hmm, I had no idea that was an overused term. Keep in mind that the time I used it as I described earlier was over 40 years ago. I don't know if it was overused back then, but I honestly didn't know if it was used at all today.

Growing up, I used to super glue a coin or two to the floor in front of vending machines, real fun to watch people try to pick them up..

Should we inquire whether PCGS or NGC will grade these Olympic-themed medals?

Pay them enough and they will This is one case though where I do not think an acetone bath would be an improvement.

Quote:This 20-year-old article about State Quarters is quite amusing! The article should have also mentioned that the Kansas and North Dakota State Quarters were originally intended to feature buffaloes, but incessant numismatists argued that the animals were bison.

I'll take that stirred pot b/c, being a teacher, it is fun to educate with fact, and no doubt someone will come here who has not seen the facts. I used to teach taxonomy in biology classes. Internet misinformation: Using a genus and species classification (bison) as a name for an animal (buffalo). Samuel De Champlain named the animal buffalo (the first white man to see the animal) in 1619. It was 130-142 years later Carolus (Carl) Linnaeus translated the name buffalo into Latin ( bison) to create categories (not names of animals)) for taxonomy system. He translated "buffalo" into Latin for the genus category and the species subcategory. Using the system, the proper format is to write genus species and name as in the following format and punctuation: genus species, (common name) Bison bison, (American Buffalo) Ironically if Linnaeus had decided to use French instead of Latin for taxonomy (meaning the word bison never would have been associated with this animal at all) the buffalo would have been scientifically classified and named as: Buffalo buffalo, (American Buffalo) QED

One of the designs proposed by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) for the 2025 American Liberty Gold Coin and Silver Medal program depicts the wrath of a buffalo after being identified as a bison... https://www.usmint.gov/news/ccac-me...edal-obverse
