I'm not sure about this since the areas in question are on both the obverse and reverse in the same area. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Really tough to tell with all the beatings Jeff has taken. Greaser maybe. Tapered planchet maybe.

Weight would be a help on this one. Also a view of the rim edge on the area in question.

Well, the weight is normal for a Nickel. I think it's Struck Through Grease.
