I forgot about this thread since they moved it. Newly purchased medal from the German State of Bamberg dated 1795. Its a hair smaller than a taler at 37.4 mm. Commemorates the sede vacante after the death of the prince-bishop of Würzburg and Bamberg. Last sede vacante issue from Bamberg before the secularization of the church lands in 1802.
I can't help myself, I have to put up another French silver crown (I love these magnificient pieces...).
France 1721, 1 écu, Louis XV, Paris (A). 24.5 g, 39 mm.
As a crown, this one is a bit light-weight, a consequence of the 1710s having been tough from a financial point of view and the government continually decreasing the value of money. The coin is an overstrike of an older écu from 1718 - one can see the contours of the previous design. To see the older coin, and have a short history lesson on why the overstrike was done, see this post: http://goccf.com/t/355397#3116121
