I have seen Mason ones before. Does Uncle Sam care about "defacing government property" or is it officially ok to counterstamp? I know they tolerate those machines that stretch pennies and stamp them with a tourist trap or other novelty...

@diy89nurm7 It's not illegal. Though a grey area does exist. Here is an old link where I guess I asked the same question and got some really spectacular information from our members: http://goccf.com/t/303116

It was damaged by the over-strike being pressed into the reverse.

Quote: It was damaged by the over-strike being pressed into the reverse. Ok, I was just wondering how the extra lettering came about on the obverse.

Quote: It was damaged by the over-strike being pressed into the reverse. Maybe, but that really doesn't seem to make sense. I hadn't noticed the extra lettering on the obverse until Rothery brought it up. It's the words GOD WE TRUST that are somehow transferred 90 degrees off on the obverse. Weird.

It would appear that the stamping company had a Lincoln die mated to the different pressed patterns.I was wondering how the operation of pressing had not distorted (too badly) the Lincoln obverse. The third example of this style makes it apparent.

I was thinking it was transfer from whatever they set the cent on, which got impressed from a previous cent getting pressed.

Man's Best friend Pressed Cent. I noticed that the machine (which I would love to find out more about) has a die crack at 6 o'clock.
