Picked this up recently because the price was right. It's quite original with no sense of handling other than a single vertical fold, evident in the pic. Must have been stored that way for a long time.

After a long history spanning almost a hundred years, the Series 1966A $100 was the last of the iconic "red seal" US Notes to be printed. US Notes were first authorized per se in the 1870's and, after the switch to small size notes, continued to be printed intermittently to meet obscure requirements from the original law. New legislation in the 1960's finally changed this and The Treasury printed the last "red seal" notes of any denomination (below) in 1969-1970, after discontinuing the $2 and $5 notes a few years earlier.

Thanks for the history of the red seal. The $100 was a simple design but nice.

Thanks guys. Red seals just have so much more pop to them than blue, green or brown!

They certainly do, but I still prefer the look of the blues and yellows of the silver certs. Personal preference, I suppose.

One of my favorite designs on small size $100's.

Printed alongside the 1969 FRN's. Never owned one as a kid. This was BIG bucks back then.

Nice note Mr.Frog.
