I certainly have developed over time the same understanding of the PCGS wizards approach to these seldom seen (by them) circulated commemoratives. Their opinions are simply inconsistent and, as pointed out, each type coin example resets the grading standards. After approximately 10 years now pursuing these coins I humbly believe that I have developed a better overall judgement across the entire series than the wizards have. Quote: David's Texas examples in his thread "Update 4" show an egregious error on PCGS's part between those 2 coins I appreciate the empathy ... but the fact is that it is an expensive, frustrating and time consuming game to play crack out and resubmit .... so that 1934 Texas remains in my set judged by the wizards as AG03. Quote: here's a small lot of coins off eBay Fantastic lot indeed ... I've never to my recollection came across one like that. If I were to grade them (by the photos provided) ... my judgement would be as follows: Lexington: G06 Pilgrim (1920): AG03/G04 borderline W-C (1952): AG03

Indeed ... I'll offer opinions based on the photos provided ... not sure how I could 'cheat' as suggested by the OP. Both Stone Mountain are AG03 today ... original surfaces and certifiable. They might have been judged FR02 in the early days of submitting these to the wizards ... absolutely certain neither is PO01. The Lafayette is VF25/VF30 ... again original surfaces. Lovely example. The Isabella is VG08/VG10 ... crusty but original and certifiable. That is how I would grade them based on the photos provided ... what say you on the wizards opinions?
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.finewoodcrafter.comToo many hobbies .... too much work .... not enough time.

It can be challenging to grade from photos and I appreciate David's willingness to take a stab at these old friends! (Good, I will not reveal the secret as to how some 'cheat' with the GTG, although I did attempt the usual means and it seems formatting on posting photos here does not allow it!) OK for the grades decreed by PCGS.... Stone Mountain on top: AG3 Stone Mountain below: FR2 Lafayette: F12 Izzy: VF25 I can't find the slab photos for the Izzy:

Pat Braddick provenance -a personal favorite. I think he angled the slabs so the scanner would focus- that was an old trick anyways if blurring scans were a problem. So I rotated and cropped them to fit the 300K here.

Outstanding .... I suggested above that one of my current examples has its pedigree attributed to your collecting eye. Good to know that for sure however. Same coin: I acquired the coin on eBay in March 2014. Wondering how many collectors it passed through from you to me? It is certainly a reminder that all of us have temporary possession of the coins in our collections.
