I was not even aware that these elongated coins existed until I received this freebie at a LCS.
Since then I have learned from a fellow CCF member (Commems) that this is a coin produced by Don Adam during the 1970's commemorating U.S. coinage. It is an example of this set recognizing the
Jefferson nickel. There was apparently 38 U.S. coins recognized in this set.
The obverse in a 1955 Jefferson while the obverse depicts both obverse and reverse images of this issue.
I do not know the significance of the 30 following the designers initials. I have also observed that there appears to be a
Cud on the reverse @ 9k.
I was hoping to get something more familiar to me in this give away, but luck of the draw I guess.
I have no interest in this category of collecting as I am completely consumed in Lincoln cents at the moment. And that moment seems to endure. Varieties and errors.
That being said, I am sure that one of you out there is interested in this series. And others may even desire examples with die events.
If this post describes you, I would like to give this one to you.
