The Cholan Empire a vast empire covering Southern India, north to Kalinga, 2/3 of Sri Lanka, the Maldives and parts of East Asia.

Raja Raja Cholan I who's was born Arul Mozhi Cholan ruled this empire from 985-1014 AD

Very nice! I have won several of these in eBay auctions, just because they are fun to have!

Good rendition of the legend on this one. Always struck me as odd how these early coins from the empire's zenith are so uneven and crudely made while the later coins from Sri Lanka are made so well.

Nice coin Ron!

As you know these are very common coins but not that easy to obtain with a full readable legend like yours...
Good find..

The crescent above the cyphers on the obverse indicates your coin is from mainland India...
