Bate, not sure on this one, the bottom L looks as if it has a split serif and the bottom curl of the 9 looks like it does too. They could also be contact marks. Variety Vista is not showing one for that year nor does Mr. Wexler's site. I'm thinking contact marks IMO.

Bate, it looks the same, I believe what your seeing is contact marks from circulation. I sure would like to be wrong on this one. It may also have a little MD but the lighting makes it difficult to tell.

Machine Doubling. All areas are reduced a bit from the MD. (looking at the edges of devices again?)

I'm sorry Bate, but it's all Machine Doubling, not a Doubled Die Obverse. A real Doubled Die doesn't reduce the size of the devices (only Machine Doubling does that).

Mrzllewellyn, there's no notching or split serifs (it's not there). It's all part of the product of Machine Doubling.

It's difficult to tell if these notches are really there, or if it's just from the lighting.

I can't say for sure either way.

I also saw the notches and wondered how this could not be a DDO. I also see though that there is MD on it.
